Herrmann Zschoche

The director, screenwriter and producer Herrmann Zschoche (born November 25, 1934 in Dresden) is known for his children's and youth films, but for his critical contemporary films. He is one of the most productive and successful filmmakers in the GDR. He focuses on small, everyday stories, which are very well received by the audience. His films meet the zeitgeist, they are honest, authentic and realistic, although or because they are interested in people's dreams. (Source: DEFA Foundation) Zschoche became known for the youth film "Seven Freckles" (1978). His film "Karla" (1965) was banned from censorship. In 2017 the “Berlinale” opened its retro with Zschoche's science fiction film “Eolomea” (1972). Two years later, the Zschoche Festival honored it with the “Berlinale Camera”.
